This is going to be a work in progress
So you want to be a Caller?
Here is some stuff you should know before you go to a Caller School.
In general, A new caller (prior to going to caller school) should be a reasonably good dancer. It's kind of difficult to approach calling without a solid background in dancing. A new caller needs a good understanding of what his or her intention is about where he or she will fit into the grand scheme of things. Is the intention to call for Clubs? Advanced? Challenge? Traditional? One Night Parties?, etc. Calling for Plus clubs & lower takes some rhythm & singing ability.
Most importantly for today's modern caller schools, a student really needs to know the mainstream calls WELL and understand what they do, how they maneuver people within a foursome or around the square. A caller attending a caller school for the first time will get much more out of it with a simple understanding of how the Mainstream calls work. If a practical understanding of how they are typically used in local dances can be cultivated, the student is much better prepared to learn what the typical caller school has to offer. A new Caller should also have an understanding of the "Caller Language" so when they do go to a Caller's School they don't feel like everyone is speaking a foreign language. The should know & understand the different FASR(FORMATION, ARRANGEMENT, SEQUENCE AND RELATIONSHIP) terms are.

STARTER KITS FOR NEWER CALLERS
The recently completed manual "Starter Kit for Newer Callers" is now ready
for sale and distribution. This has been a project of the Caller Training
Committee and represents an excellent value of very important information,
especially for new and relatively new callers. If any of you do any work with
the training of new callers, you should strongly encourage them to purchase
their own copy of this manual. Also, those of you who are involved with local
caller association training sessions, should add this to your library.
The contents of the manual include the Formations and Arrangement charts
as well as common definitions currently in use by most callers. It also
includes many CALLERLAB handouts on such topics as Music, Smooth Body
Flow, Helper Words for Callers, three papers on Timing, Modules, Mental
Image, Sight Calling, Code of Ethics, two papers dealing with Degree of
Difficulty, Reference Sources and the two application Booklets on
Mainstream and Plus.
A listing of the Accredited Caller-Coaches is included as well as information
on scholarships available for continuing education and a check-off teaching
list for the CALLERLAB Mainstream and Plus programs. The manual is
arranged and published in a loose leaf notebook format or spiral bound.
